Job Summary:

Family Life Communications, a leader in Christian ministry for over 40 years, is seeking a self-motivated individual who has a heart for service.  The right person for this position is responsible for editorial content for all Family Life Communications Incorporated publications. Manages a pool of freelance writersResearches, writes and edits for projects as assigned.

No relocation assistance provided with this position.
     
     

Essential Functions:

  • Develops editorial content that is brand aligned, speaking with the voice for Family Life Communications (FLC, FLR, IL), ensuring this voice is consistent in all communications
  • Serves on the editorial team to ensure that all assignments have received all necessary research, writing, editing, proofing and fact checking
  • Ensures all materials are grammatically correct and error-free at final production
  • Serves as the primary writer for the majority of ministry publications; engages the services of freelance writers as necessitated by workflow and special projects
  • Manages freelance writers to ensure clear direction and timely delivery of writing assignments for special projects
  • Assists and contributes to the Internet/web team by providing content that is accurate and error-free
  • Responsible for creating and implementing segmentation direction in conjunction with the Director of Development and the Data Segmentation Team
  • Follows the standard creative development process: creative, approval of concepts, proofread final copy to ensure accurate and correct communication
  • Writes strategically targeted copy for FLC target audiences
  • Develops style guide and keeps it updated

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Mastery of grammar, spelling, editing and proofing skills
  • Exceptional creative writing ability
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Marketing experience—preferably in a ministry or non-profit environment
  • Ability to communicate and interact successfully with co-workers, management and listeners
  • Self motivated; high producer
  • Experience with project management
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products

Qualifications and Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or Journalism or related field, or
  • Combination of education & experience
  • Five (5) years professional writing experience
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Communications, English or Journalism
  • Marketing experience - preferably in a ministry or non-profit environment
  • Experience working with Six Sigma Quality Assurance Methodology
  • Experience editing/writing for Christian media outlets
