His First Love

Jamie Slocum Returns to Performing Live

Taking the opportunities God brings, but then always returning to what you love doing most for His glory. For Jamie Slocum, that’s been the best way to live intentionally and fulfill God’s purposes for him and his music ministry.

Jamie has branched out to produce music projects for a variety of other artists, and he also accepted an opportunity to work on a 20th Century Fox motion picture entitled “Breaking the Press.” It’s a contemporary retelling of the story of the prodigal son set in the world of Texas high school basketball and stars Drew Waters from the hit TV show Friday Night Lights.

“The producers of the movie called me last year and said, ‘We love your song Dependence and it’s really ministered to us…We would love to not only use Dependence but we would love for you to do the theme song for the movie.’ So I flew down to Los Angeles and recorded the song.” Jamie says the movie is available on DVD and comes with a Bible study guide.

While those opportunities are exciting to Jamie, his passion will always be music and, more specifically, performing live for an audience.

“God is moving me into lots of different areas as far as producing other people and doing movies as well, but my first love is always Christian music and doing concerts,” Slocum said. “It’s that connection you have with the audience where they tell you stories of how songs have ministered to them. It reminds me of why I do this. My favorite thing is to meet people after concerts.”

Jamie released the Dependence Deluxe Edition CD in 2011 and is looking forward to performing—and doing whatever else God brings his way in the years to come.
