Jeremy Camp Seeks a Greater Prayer Life
With all Jeremy Camp has been through, you’d think he’d be ready to settle in spiritually, maybe take it easy. Nothing could be further from the truth as the Grammy-award nominated artist tours in support of his sixth album, “We Cry Out: The Worship Project,” and looks to draw ever closer to the Lord. A singer who’s also an ordained minister, Jeremy makes an intentional return to worship on “We Cry Out” just as he did for his second album, “Carried Me.” “This feels full circle—just coming in to make the record and saying, ‘Whatever you want, God.’ A lot of people don’t know that Carried Me was the first project I signed up to do; I was launching as a worship artist. But we ended up debuting with a studio album (Stay), because the content of those original songs related more directly to my personal testimony.” That testimony focused on Camp’s experiences stemming from the death of his first wife to cancer only months after their wedding. Just 23 years old at the time, Camp said it was then that he returned to the very core of his faith. “I’m so glad that I had that foundation because… all that knowledge had to really just sink into my heart, and I really had to take steps of faith and trust in the Lord because I had no clue what was happening and I was just hurting,” he said. “God has been faithful.” In 2011, Jeremy says his greatest spiritual goal is to go deeper in his prayer life. “Sometimes it’s consistent and sometimes it’s not; it’s just up and down,” he said. “Yet there are so many things that happen in prayer. You spend time with the Lord very in-depth, and you quit focusing on yourself and focus on others and have a bigger heart for them.” “There’s so much more to prayer than talking to God. Things change (as a result) and God does answer prayer, and when you see that happen, your faith builds up.”
