Todd Agnew Gives Thanks to God

Major life change can happen at any time. With Todd Agnew, it happened very quickly.

“It was a pretty big life change all of a sudden,” says Todd. “I went from single musician guy with no responsibilities to homeowner, husband and father of two in 48 hours.”

In early 2008, the singer-songwriter bought a new home, married and became a stepfather. A week later, he moved into his new home with his new family and soon after began working on his latest project, Need.

Through this new album and the first single-release, Joy Unspeakable, Todd Agnew has become more intentional in his attitude.

“For a moment just to say, ‘God, I just want to say, ‘thanks.’ I just want to be thankful and joyful about all the things that you’ve put in my life,’” he explains.

Using the same approach he used on Grace Like Rain, Todd has once again produced a new song with some familiar words from an old hymn on Joy Unspeakable. He took the verses from the hymn of the same name and wrote the music and chorus to create a brand new song.

“I wanted to write a song of gratitude; a song that thanked God for the joy that He put in my life.”

Not to confuse joy with happiness, Todd sings of joy being unspeakable. Some days are difficult, demanding or unhappy, but there is a joy to be found because you are not alone. You are walking through it in Christ.

Todd explains that the album “has this strange but beautiful concept that somehow all the things we really need are found in Christ.”

A very down-to-earth kind of guy, Todd is known for performing barefoot at his concerts much like one of his favorite singers, the late Rich Mullins.

“The strength, the comfort and the joy that comes from our relationship with Him is ever present, even in our troubled times,” Todd says. “That is a joy that I do not have words to describe.”
