Broadcast Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Director of Engineering
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Hours: Full-time, Exempt
Summary: Assists in the installation, maintenance & proper operations of audio, automation and RF broadcast hardware and supporting equipment at FLC stations; based from our headquarters in Tucson, AZ. Practices engineering disciplines consistent with FCC regulations and FLC engineering standards with an emphasis on safety. Responsible for routine maintenance and deployment of similar equipment in other FLC installations nationwide as may be required. Must be able to work independently when needed, and work from a prioritized task list.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assumes the responsibilities as Chief Operator for designated FLC stations
- Aids in installing, upgrading, maintaining, and repairing studio and transmitter site broadcast equipment
- Assists with documentation & maintaining documentation of engineering systems; includes updating logs and executing checklists to discover equipment and system anomalies
- Works with the Operations & Production staff to identify, and repair basic technical problems; brings larger issues to the attention of the Director of Engineering
- Completes all tasks to FLC and FCC standards
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborates with Facilities Department; assists in meeting mutual goals between Engineering and Facilities, as needed
- Provides instruction to applicable staff regarding technical operation of broadcast equipment and any systems changes, as needed

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of one year of trade/technical school in Electronics or a related field
- One (1) year or more broadcast engineering experience including, but not limited to, trouble shooting and repairing failures in broadcast electronic equipment, diagnosing audio and RF issues in satellite and radio transmission systems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of technologies used in a radio broadcast environment
- Understanding of radio studio engineering
- Understanding of electronics concepts & ability to troubleshoot equipment problems
- Understanding of FM and AM transmission systems
- Understanding of IT with basic level of IT skills
- Knowledge of radio station recording, storage and playback systems
- Knowledge of satellite uplink and downlink equipment and deployment
- Basic organizational and decision-making skills
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Strong PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio)
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks on time and with quality
- Strong desire and ability to learn from Senior Broadcast Engineers
- Knowledge of FCC broadcast rules
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights from ladders or similar equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving record
- Dependable vehicle and proof of auto insurance
- May require some in- or out-of-state travel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree in electronics or comparable area of study
- SBE Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBT)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Experience with Burk or other radio transmitter remote control systems
- Basic knowledge of ENCO DAD or similar broadcast audio storage/automation delivery systems
