This is the story about trying to work out our differences that we shared this morning.
God Bless!

TRESPASSES AND DEBTS

The story is told of two congregations that were located only a few blocks from each other in a small community. They thought it might be better if they would merge and become one united, larger, and more effective body rather than two struggling churches. Good idea … but they were not able to pull it off. The problem? They could not agree on how they would recite “The Lord’s Prayer.” One group preferred “forgive us our trespasses,” while the other group demanded “forgive us our debts.”

So, as the local newspaper reported, “One church went back to its trespasses while the other returned to its debts.”

From “News to Us” this morning:
An American pastor in jail in Iran is ailing and in serious need of medical attention. Behnam Irani has served 2 years of a 6 year prison sentence, and is facing ulcers, a back problem, & a skin condition that makes it painful to be in the sun. However Present Truth Ministries says Irani’s faith remains strong. What can we do? Pray – for his wife Kristina, 12 year old daughter & 4 year old son – but you can also write letters to him through PrisonerAlert.com. These letters are often read by prison officials, and in at least 1 case a prison warden and a translator came to Christ as a result.

Here’s the info on the Back to Church Contest we talked about:
The team behind National Back to Church Sunday invites you to help their efforts to get America back to church by adding to their video collection, giving you a chance to share your creative abilities, help the Back to Church movement, and also win prizeds! You or your church may enter videos of 1-3 minutes to invite others to church or to encourage folks at your church to personally invite their friends and neighbors. One $3,000 cash prize will be awarded in each category–the inspirational video and the invitational video. Deadline is Oct. 1…all the details are here:

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.
