Your Immeasurable Worth

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

— Luke 12:6-7

Do you care what others think about you? Do their opinions weigh heavily on you? From first impressions to lasting relationships, people appraise, catalog and label us based on how we look, what we achieve (or don’t) and how we perform. And it can become unnerving.

Many of us struggle with low self-esteem, criticize ourselves too harshly or hold ourselves to a standard that is impossible to attain. But what does that say about our Heavenly Father, who created us? He loved us before we were born. He knew us before the world was formed or mankind existed. He believed in us. He had plans for us to become all that He created us to be.

He knows us better than we know ourselves. He recognizes what we’re capable of—both the good and bad—and He counted us worth it all. Our true worth depends on nothing of this world. It is based on God’s view of each of us. He gave His only Son as a ransom for many. He allowed Jesus to die on a cross, a barbaric and agonizing death, so we could have a relationship with Him. He counted the cost and believed we were worth the price.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see someone that God considers of high value and infinite worth?
