Francesca Battistelli – Born to be a music powerhouse?

Sitting in the backseat of the car, Francesca Battistelli was on the phone with her then boyfriend. When she got off the phone she was asked if the relationship was serious. She just smiled this big, silly grin and said she certainly hoped so. Now, five years later, Francesca is married to Matthew Goodwin (the young man on the phone) and they are the proud parents of two precious kids. They travel together as Francesca tours but what of the journey in between that took them from Florida to Nashville? That took Francesca from a love struck girl in the backseat of the car to a music powerhouse of an artist?

Perhaps we can look to the lyrics of her new song “Write Your Story” for those answers.

“Write Your story, write Your story
Come on and write Your story, write Your story
Won’t You write Your story on my heart”

Francesca was born to performing parents and found herself wanting for perform herself when she saw The Secret Garden on Broadway. She knew in her heart of hearts that she would be on the stage someday. Her parents are still her biggest fans along with her husband, who is the son of Billy Goodwin in the band Newsong.

“My life
I know it’s never really been mine
So do with it whatever You like
I don’t know what Your plan is
But I know it’s good, yeah”

Her servant’s heart has led Francesca to what God’s will is for her life. In 2008 when her first studio album, My Paper Heart, was released, Francesca was set on the path that would include three studio albums and a Grammy nomination in 2009. Her music speaks to the hearts of women who want to follow God’s word but struggle with the world’s demands. In her song “This Is The Stuff” she shares about ripped jeans, lost cell phones and wrecked cars being things that God uses to mold us into who He wants us to be.

Francesca does not hesitate in sharing her challenges in her music or her Twitter feed so that other mothers and women can smile at her honesty and know they are not alone. On the “Son of God” tour recently she faced the challenges of her three-year-old son having a door dropped on him (he is fine) almost passing out and the alarm at her home going off, all within the same hour as the meet and greet with her fans.

So, back to the path God placed her on, her latest CD, “If We’re Honest”, which released April 22nd, Francesca continues trusting that her life never really was hers to begin with and she proclaims that her life is His.

“Author of my hope
Maker of the stars
Let me be Your work of art
Won’t You write Your story on my heart”
