Servant Saturday Review

Family Life Radio’s community transformation team recently hosted a “Servant Saturday” outreach project day on April 25th. Below is a list of some of the great results along with some pictures of the day. If you are interested in partnering with Family Life Radio in serving your community mark your calendar for October 24th. In October we will once again be going out into the community to be the hands and feet of Christ. Stay tuned for further information.

Chattanooga TN:
We partnered with an organization called “Unity in the Community” to replace a ceiling in a bedroom of an 11 yr old girl in East Chattanooga.  She has health problems, and the ceiling was literally falling in on her. We also removed layers of wallpaper and old paste from the walls that were filled with graffiti, and will be painting all the walls.

Lubbock TX:
Our project in Texas was focused on raising awareness about the food crisis in the local community, and to help at the South Plains Food Bank Farm.  The time spent at the Food Bank Farm was an amazing time of fun, fellowship and faith building.  The volunteers got the land ready for planting by cleaning up trash, preparing the ground for planting, and laying water lines.

Tucson AZ:
We partnered with the Giving Tree Outreach in Tucson. Half of our team spent 5 hours "loving on" babies and kids while the other half removed three rooms of trash out of a house that is about to be converted to a home for Refugee families. The Giving Tree Outreach is committed to Helping the homeless and needy children and families of Tucson and Pima County. They currently house close to 100 and are feeding an additional 2,000 every month.

Jackson MI:
We partnered with the Jackson Interfaith Shelter, which provides housing for the homeless of Jackson.  We cleaned up the basement of a transitional rental house, which will provide the Shelter with more space for items donated to their ministry that touches many hurting people in Jackson.

Midland MI:
Family Life Radio’s Servant Saturday at Shelter house was a great time of service and fellowship. Shelter house in not a Christian organization but by helping families in abusive situation they are truly doing God’s work. The Body of Christ stepped up and out of the Church to serve the community.  Our 21 volunteers served by cleaning both the inside and outside of the facility. The volunteers bagged up over 100 bags of leaves and other yard waste that day. They also cleaned every window in Shelter house.

Albuquerque NM:
We partnered with Joy Junction Ministries and accomplished the following. Two thirds of our team made sandwiches, potato salad and rice crispy treats for their lunch crowd while the rest of the group went out and worked on cleaning up the grounds before the lunch crowd arrived. It was a great time of fun, fellowship and servant hood!

Phoenix AZ:
In The Valley of Sun we helped out Valley View Community Food bank by preparing and filling bags with Pinto Beans, Candy, Pasta, and Rice.  All in all we packaged 20,000 lbs of food, which translated into 18,400 families and/or a 6-week supply for the Food Bank.  130 people gave up 4 hours on a Saturday to reach the final total!

Detroit MI:
Family Life Radio partnered with the Provident Corporation for a Clothing Outreach to families in the Mt. Clemens area of Metro Detroit. As volunteers, we served as assistants for the Clothing Outreach at New Mt. Moriah Church in Mt. Clemens from 9:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.   We helped unpack, fold and display clothing in preparation for the Clothing Outreach that day.  The focus of the day was on people. We showed God’s love in a very tangible way to these families in need by providing them with free clothing, and we’re also able to show them God's love by passing out hugs, visiting with them, and also praying with them.

Below are a few fun photos from our Servant Saturday volunteers across the country.
