Broadcast Engineer / IT Specialist

This position supports FLC’s Broadcast IT infrastructure in the ministry’s Tucson corporate headquarters and communication to/with our transmitter sites.  This position serves as the main point of contact for Broadcast IT related matters for our constellation of stations; installs and maintains Broadcast IT equipment; troubleshoots computer systems and Broadcast signal flow.


  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctioning Broadcast IT/IP systems
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots software and software configuration issues
  • Provide hands-on support both in the studio and in the field
  • May require travel to broadcast sites to perform installation or conduct repairs
  • Collaborates with Corporate IT and/or Facilities Departments as needed to meet Engineering goals


  • Strives to make improvements in all areas of responsibility
  • Performs system back-ups regularly on critical computer systems
  • Maintains inventory of software, Broadcast IT hardware, broadcast equipment
  • Documents signal flow and wiring


  • Two-year degree (or equivalent education and experience) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience providing IT services in radio broadcasting
  • Administrator experience with Windows, Windows Server, Unix, and Linux Operating Systems
  • Experience configuring MS Office, mail systems, Internet and Intranet systems


  • Ethernet networking administration skills including VPN, routers, managed switches
  • Knowledge of IP-based audio routing/console mixing systems; AES digital audio; IP audio delivery
  • Knowledge of Unix and Linux OS scripts
  • Ability to troubleshoot software problems including Audio software, applications, and drivers
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer hardware problems including workstations, servers, drives, cards, and other peripherals
  • Familiar with SQL Server, mySQL, VB Script, VMWare, Audio over IP, VOIP technology, streaming media encoding
  • Knowledge of radio-station-type digital audio delivery systems, audio storage systems
  • Current knowledge of applicable FCC compliance rules & regs
  • Ability  to read and produce technical drawings/documentation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, work well under pressure and be solution-oriented


  • Capable of occasionally working overnights and weekends, as needed
  • Able to work on ladders and in confined spaces; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state to studio and transmitter sites
  • Customer service oriented
  • Requires valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent career work experience
  • Microsoft MSCE certification
  • Cisco certification
  • SBE certification
  • Experience with Adobe Audition and VoxPro software packages
  • Experience with Wheatstone IP, IDC satellite, Enco DAD, Harris Intraplex systems
  • Experience with BE Big Pipe and Harris Intraplex IP audio delivery systems
  • Experience with Sage Digital ENDEC or other EAS/CAP systems
  • Experience with Burk AutoPilot 2010 and Burk transmitter remote control systems
  • Experience with Configuration of  HP and Cisco switches/firewalls; Watchguard firewalls
  • Experience with Flash Media Encoder, Windows Media Encoder


  • Knowledge of Broadcast STL, Microwave IP systems, audio processing
  • Knowledge of satellite, microwave, fiber, FM and AM transmission systems
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts
