Former “American Idol” finalist, Mandisa, has had her share of challenges. She said she sucked her thumb until she was 24 and has battled weight loss and addiction to food.

Those obstacles have not stopped the singer from living an intentional and successful life in Christ. Mandisa’s first full-length album, “True Beauty,” debuted at number one on the Top Christian Albums chart. She was the first woman to debut at number one in the chart’s 27-year history.

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. 1 John 5:4,” Mandisa wrote on Twitter this week.

Mandisa wrote on Facebook she intentionally lets others see her imperfections so they know what’s in her heart.

“I believe that as Christians we’re called to take off our masks and let others see us as we really are. I, for one, am NOT perfect,” she wrote.” I simply have the only One who IS perfect living inside of my heart.”

She titled her next album “Overcomer” as a nod to those who have used faith and the love of God to put their lives on track.

“I recorded both the song and the album to fuel faith, empower people, and remind those facing a battle, that all of the strength, power, and weapons of warfare they need is readily available to them,” Mandisa said. “We are all overcomers.”
