Verse of the Day

“May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your Word.” ~ Psalm 119:74

A Year with Aslan from The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe

Edmund has just disappeared in the snow.  Peter, Susan, & Lucy want to look for him, but Mr. Beaver explains what they already know …

He has betrayed us all.

It goes on to say their words died on their lips, because they knew it was true.  Still, we can trust God will do all he can to bring back out loved ones.  In fact, he already has.

10,000 enemies can’t stop a Christian, can’t even slow him down, if he meets them with an attitude of complete trust in God.  Those enemies will become to him like the atmosphere that resists an airplane, but because the plane’s designer knew how to take advantage of that resistance, actually ends up lifting the plane & holds it there.  What would have been an enemy is instead a helpful servant.” ~ A.W. Tozer, We Travel an Appointed Way

“…the image Jesus used to describe the church’s destiny – that “the gates of hell will not prevail against it” – is a metaphor of offense, not defense. Christians are storming the gates, & they will prevail. No matter how it looks at any given point in history, the gates guarding the powers of evil will not withstand an assault by grace” ~ Elton Trueblood

Initially we trust in our ignorance, calling it innocence. Then we trust our innocence, calling it purity. Either Jesus is the supreme authority on the human heart, or He isn’t worth paying any attention to. Am I prepared to trust Him, or would I prefer to trust my own “innocent ignorance”? If I will take an honest look at myself, I will be appalled at the possibilities of the evil and the wrong within me. But if I will simply hand myself over to Him, I will never have to experience the terrible possibilities that lie within my heart.” ~ Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Life’s tough times & tragedies are inevitable.  Nobody should have to wait in the hospital alone.  Nobody should have to wait for news from the battlefield alone.  Or spend their first night alone, after their spouse has walked out.  1 Corinthians 12 says “If one part suffers, every part suffers.”  Only a fool would go into those rough times unprepared.  That’s why we all need each other.” ~ Pastor Rick Warren, Daily Hope

The prophet Micah has just given the message that Jerusalem will be overturned.  King Hezekiah prays, and God relents .. for a time.  Jeremiah 26 tells us why.

Did not Hezekiah fear the Lord & seek His favor?

We can hope in God.  We can believe he’s going to answer us, but all of that starts with the fear of the Lord, which the Proverbs call the beginning of wisdom. ~ Daily Walk Devotion, Intentional Living Center

“Worship must always contain both Cross & Crown.  So often we cling solely to images from the New Testament, but the challenge is to broaden our vocabulary & communicate Christ from the whole of Scripture.  Yes our worship is TO Jesus, but worship is also IN Jesus, THRU Jesus, & WITH Jesus, who is easy to please, but hard to satisfy.  So the bottom line is this: Worship is a glorious, heavenly mystery. ~ Matt Redman, Facedown

“Only a small crack .. but cracks make caves collapse.” ~ Alexander Solzhenitsyn
