Verse of the Day
“Turn from evil & do good; seek peace & pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, & his ears are attentive to their cry.“ ~ Psalm 34:14-15
A Year with Aslan from Prince Caspian
Have you tried to describe God to someone who doesn’t know Him? That’s kinda like our characters in today’s devotion.
Prince Caspian is almost disgusted by the thought of going into the Black Woods because that’s where all the ghosts are.
His mentor, the doctor, says to him ..
Your Highness speaks as you have been taught .. but it’s all lies. There are no ghosts. It’s a story invented by the Telmarines, who live in fear of Aslan coming from over the sea. They don’t want to go near it .. & they don’t want anyone else to go near it.
Remember that when you face ridicule for your faith in Jesus. They don’t know & they’re probably afraid – but don’t let that stop you from going where He calls.
It Started With A Brownie
You just never know how one small thing can make all the difference. Little Annie was locked in a mental institution & the doctors had rendered her hopelessly insane. They even put her in a dungeon – but one nurse began eating lunch near Annie’s cell & would leave a brownie every day. Over time the clouds lifted from Annie & she was told she could return home – but Annie decided to stay & minister. Annie’s given name? Anne Sullivan, who taught Helen Keller.
“Let not your peace depend on the tongues of men – for whether they judge well or not, you’re not on their account.” One of the first things a Christian should get used to is abuse. To do nothing is called lazy & to do something is to get abused for not doing something else. One thing is certain – your standing before God does not depend on your standing before men. Voltaire once said “Some people are like insects – they wouldn’t be noticed except they sting.” And 1 Thessalonians 2 reminds us “We have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.” ~ A.W. Tozer, The Next Chapter After Last
“Each of us needs others to watch out for us, to defend us, protect us, & help us stay on track. One of the big reasons is because we have an enemy set against us that only wants to hurt, steal, kill, & destroy us. Why? Because he wants to hurt God & he can’t – so he comes for us. Ecclesiastes 4 says “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. & a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” ~ Pastor Rick Warren, Daily Hope
In John 4, Jesus meets a woman at the well. Even without knowing Him, she knew about him. She was not living for the Lord but she knew Messiah was coming & that he’d explain everything. This woman was the first person that Jesus declared he was Messiah to. It’s almost like the Jesus version of Everything I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. It’s the basic rules – what the Bible calls “the milk” – the stuff you need to know before you grow. ~ Daily Walk Devotion, Intentional Living Center
