Consistent Moments with God
Seeking God’s Presence for Your Own Life
As a contemporary Christian music artist, Joseph O’Brien has a unique way of experiencing and sharing his faith. Raised in a Christian home, Joseph’s relationship with God has always been a central part of his life.
In a recent interview with Family Life Radio, he opens up about his faith journey, the powerful role of music in his worship, and the joy he finds in his relationship with Jesus.
A Consistent Relationship with God
Joseph’s upbringing provided a strong foundation for his faith. “I always wanted to follow Jesus. I always wanted to, to please Hm,” he recalls. This early desire to live a life pleasing to God has stayed with him throughout his journey. He describes how growing up in a Christian home instilled in him a consistent awareness of God’s presence.
Even though Joseph doesn’t point to a single dramatic encounter with God, he speaks of an ongoing, intimate relationship. “I don’t know if I’ve ever had a moment where I feel like I’m face to face… I know God’s here. I know what He’s like.”
God is always present, even in the ordinary moments of life.
Finding God in Worship
For Joseph, music is a key in way he connects with God. “I feel the most close to Him in music for sure because that’s what He’s gifted me in. That’s what I try to steward.”
Whether he is leading worship or participating from the congregation, music brings him into a deeper sense of God’s presence. The communal aspect of worship is particularly meaningful for Joseph. “I love to be in the congregation and worship with the people of God. It’s powerful. Like when people are all singing the same thing, and you all believe the same thing.”
A shared expression of faith creates a deep bond and a powerful experience of God’s presence.
Moments of Divine Presence
“It’s those little moments that we sometimes forget to appreciate.” Joseph finds these moments not only in worship but also during quiet times of Scripture reading and prayer. These are the times when he feels most grounded and aware of God’s nearness.
God’s presence isn’t limited to grand, life-changing events. Instead, it’s often found in the consistent, small moments of daily life. “Even when I’m reading Scripture, it’s like, ‘Oh God, you’re here. You’re like in this room. I’m getting to know you, and you want to say something to me.’”
Moments of divine presence, though easily overlooked, are crucial for sustaining a deep and personal relationship with God.
Joy in Jesus
The source of Joseph’s joy is unmistakable: “I just love Jesus. …what He’s done for me, what He continues to do for me, He just brings me lots of joy.” This kind of joy is a deep-seated response to the ongoing work of Jesus in his life.
His passion for music and ministry is fueled by his desire to spread the message of Jesus. Joseph finds immense joy in the opportunity to share his faith through music. “Getting to sing about Jesus and have the opportunity to go tell people about Jesus… that never gets old.”
Whether he is performing at a festival or leading worship at church, Joseph sees these moments as opportunities to share the transformative power of Jesus’ love.
Music in Ministry
Joseph’s music career is deeply intertwined with his mission to spread the gospel. “I get to share what God’s done in my life and what Jesus can do for them as well.” Through his songs and performances, he reaches a wide audience, both within and outside the church. This blend of music and ministry allows him to touch lives in unique ways, offering hope and inspiration through his story and talent.
