A Breath Prayer from Psalm 139

If you’ve experienced any sort of stress or anxiety, you’ve probably encountered breathing techniques to help you destress. Breath prayers or meditations are not new. Biblical breath prayers invite God into your midst to help you remember He is always close, full of compassion and comfort in times of need.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
– Psalm 139:11-12 NIV

Let this breath prayer from Psalm 139 bring peace and comfort to your heart, reminding you that God sees you through His eyes of love and compassion. You are not alone; He is always with you, guiding and supporting you through every moment of your life.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

You are precious and valued in the Father’s eyes, and nothing can ever change that.

Take a moment to close your eyes and breathe deeply, letting these words sink in. As you do, imagine yourself in the loving embrace of God, who sees you with kindness and tenderness. Feel His presence surrounding you, comforting and strengthening you. Know that no matter what challenges you may face, God is always there with you, guiding you and helping you to overcome them.

Take a deep breath, and when you are ready, open your eyes, feeling refreshed and renewed. Remember that God sees you, and that He loves you deeply. You are precious and valued in His eyes, and nothing can ever change that.

Today’s One Thing
Praise God for His providence and love. Pray: Father, I want to believe with my entire heart and mind that your timing and providence are perfect. Please help me to crave a life that you lead. Please fill me with the Spirit’s wisdom and passion for trusting in you. Please give me the courage to be still and pursue you. I love you, Father.
