A Glorious Sky

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
— Psalm 19:1

In August 2017, people in the US witnessed an eclipse of the sun when the moon blocked its light. People were so impressed by the display that they formed parties, took time off work and traveled hundreds of miles to see the spectacle. Where a partial sun still shone, the rays shone down in a crescent shape and created an amazing display on the ground beneath trees.

In some spots a myriad of crescent images appeared to dance about as the leaves served as pinhole lenses. Standing under trees where the leaves filtered the light people saw little crescent shapes light up their arms and shade their clothes. God created the sun and moon and planned wondrous phenomena in the heavens.

If we don’t pay attention, we often miss the beauty of creation and all that God has designed in nature. But creation is designed for more than just beauty we can appreciate. The sun warms the earth, and it provides vitamin D to keep us strong. The moon reflects the sun’s light and its gravity pulls on the waters of the earth to cause the tides. All the heavenly effects we enjoy are gifts from a loving Creator that declare His glory.

Today’s One Thing

Take a walk outside in daylight to soak in vitamin D. Walk again in the moonlight. Praise God for His creations in the heavens.
