A Heart Forever Thankful

When we look for examples of biblical principles, we often point to successes, but Uzziah, a king of Judah, is best remembered for his lack of thankfulness. He began his reign at just 16 years of age when the people crowned him upon the untimely death of his father, Amaziah.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
─ Colossians 3:17 ESV

An extremely successful king, Uzziah pleased God in the early years of his reign. But as his fame spread, he allowed pride to rise on the inside of him. Eventually he forgot that God was the source of all his achievements (2 Chronicles 26).

Without God, there is no real success in life.

The wisdom in Colossians 3:17 reminds us to do all we do in the name of the Lord, giving Him the glory and credit for every single success we have.

We can do no good in our own abilities. Without God, there is no real success in life. Only when we remain humble, giving thanks to God for every achievement, will we truly know success!

Today’s One Thing

Pray this prayer today:
Lord, may I remain forever thankful. Make my heart pliable and open to you. If I’m tempted to imagine that I did anything on my own, please save me from my own selfish pride.
