A Love That Will Not Let You Go
“’You are loved with an everlasting love,’ that’s what the Bible says, ‘and underneath are the everlasting arms.’ This is your friend, Elisabeth Elliot.”
I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.
– Jeremiah 31:3 ESV
Elisabeth Elliot, a missionary, author and speaker, lost her husband, Jim Elliot, to the people he attempted to make contact with while in Ecuador. After he and four other missionaries were killed, Elisabeth and her young daughter, Valerie, later returned to live with and minister to the very people who killed her husband.
For 13 years, Elisabeth opened her radio program with these words, coming from two Bible verses. One is from Jeremiah 31:3 and the other is from Deuteronomy 33:27 (ESV), “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
God’s Word is full of His love for you.
Are you confident of God’s endearing love for you? Do you trust His everlasting arms to hang on to you no matter what? Even in suffering and sorrow? Even when you make mistakes?
Here are some things God says are true of His love for you:
- He gave His only Son for you (John 3:16), not to condemn you (John 3:17).
- He showed His love for you in that while you were still a sinner, Christ died for you (Romans 5:8).
- He is with you, rejoices over you, quiets you by His love and exults over you with loud singing (Zephaniah 3:17).
- Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39).
- God’s love has been poured into your heart through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5).
Today’s One Thing
Bask in Gods unfailing love for you and share it with someone who needs to be reminded of it.
