A Most Rewarding Role

Being a father is one of a man’s most essential and rewarding roles. It’s a responsibility containing great joy, sacrifice and challenge. As a father, you can shape your children’s lives and influence their future. Fathers, with the Holy Spirit’s instruction, can teach, guide and love their children unconditionally.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

– Proverbs 22:6 ESV

Sometimes, a father can feel overwhelmed or uncertain about his role, especially with ungodly influences in our society today.

It’s essential to remember the truth of God’s Word. As a parent, you are responsible for teaching your children values and principles that will help them establish a strong foundation of faith and sustain them throughout their lives. It is important to read the Bible, pray with them and help them develop a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

It’s not a newsflash that your children are watching you, and they will model and learn from your behavior. You must strive to live a life that reflects the love and grace of Jesus Christ. This includes loving and honoring your wife as a co-heir of the children God has given you.

You must intentionally create a home environment that fosters spiritual growth, love and the grace of Jesus Christ.

Prioritizing your time and energy to be present and engaged in your children’s lives is vastly significant in training a child. When spending quality time, stay engaged and speak words of encouragement that affirm who they are and how God loves them.

Billy Graham said, “A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society”. Trust in God’s faithfulness and seek His wisdom every step of the way. When you do, you can be confident that your efforts will bear fruit, not just in this life, but into eternity.
