A Person of Influence

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

─ 1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV

Have you ever had someone in your life, perhaps a coworker or family member, who seemed to drain the life out of you? You hate to admit it, but you skipped family functions or corporate parties simply because you didn’t want to interact with them.

Our verse today clearly encourages us not to become influenced by those who don’t believe in Christ. It’s important to recognize where you are in your spiritual walk. If you’re strong in your faith, then consider if God would have you be a person of influence.

As a Christ follower, you are infused with His strength and joy. When you have the opportunity to interact with difficult people, ask the Lord for His help. Intentionally focus on demonstrating the love of God to them. Jesus said they will know you are my disciples by your love (John 13:35).

Today’s One Thing

If you’re thinking about severing ties with a difficult person, ask yourself:

  • Am I tempted to compromise my Christian values when I’m with this person?
  • Could I be responsible for any of the challenges in our relationship?
  • Am I looking to receive more from this relationship than I’m willing to give?

Pray and ask the Lord to lead you with His peace in making your decision.
