Always Within His Sight

Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

─ Matthew 28:20

Bethany had never experienced the Christmas Lights Extravaganza, a dazzling display that draws more than 200,000 visitors each year to the Rhema Bible Church. It was challenging to keep up with her three small nephews, but she was glad her sister Tina had asked her to come along. “Hey, where’s Alex?” Bethany asked.

Tina smiled and pointed toward a display of lights to their left. Bethany saw him looking lost and alone. “Aren’t you going to get him?” Bethany asked.

“No, give it a minute,” Tina said. “I’ve told him three times to stop wandering ahead of us. I want that ‘lost’ feeling he has to sink in.”

A few seconds passed before she saw a twinge of panic poke at her nephew. Then Tina moved toward her son, calling out to him. “I’m here. I’m right here.”

Alex rushed into her arms. “Mom! I was lost. I couldn’t see you.” His voice shook a little.

“That’s why I asked you to stay close to us and not keep wandering off,” she said gently. “I kept my eyes on you. I could see you even when you couldn’t see me.”

“I’m sorry,” he said taking her hand. “I’ll stay close.”

Back at the car, Bethany thought about how Alex felt lost, even though Tina knew exactly where he was. God always knows where I am too, she thought. I’m never really out of His sight.

Today’s One Thing

Think of a time when you felt lost, but God rescued you. Share that story with someone today and encourage them to remember they are never out of His sight.
