Ask, Search and Knock

Alexander Graham Bell said, “When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.”

Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks.
─ Matthew 7:7-8 CEV

How often have Mr. Bell’s words rung true for you? Whether you look back with regret or relief, looking back is only purposeful when we learn something through the process. One thing to learn about looking back is to give God praise for what you’ve been through, and then also thank Him for the opportunities He is bringing your way.

Ask, search and knock so that you may receive, find and enter the opened door.

In the verse today, Jesus is encouraging you to be persistent in your faith. If you refuse to quit by continuing to ask, seek and knock, no matter how many times it seems the answer is “no” or “not yet,” eventually you find the answer, or the open-door God has for you.

Knowing God takes focus, faith and follow-through. It’s not that God is hard to connect with, but rather the obstacles standing in your way that demand your persistence. When you pursue Him in faith, it pleases Him.

Today’s One Thing
Look ahead in faith today. Refuse to give up but seek God by asking Him for answers to your questions. Press into Him in prayer and trust that He will hear you and respond.
