Battle Ready

In 1931 Nicholas Murray Butler, President of Columbia University in New York, said, “The vast population of this earth, and indeed nations themselves, may readily be divided into three groups. There are the few who make things happen, the many more who watch things happen, and the overwhelming majority who have no notion of what happens.”

And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

– 1 Samuel 17:32 ESV

Without question, David would fall into the first group of people Butler referenced. As you can read in 1 Samuel 17:45-47, David did not question the Lord’s complete authority and favor over the armies of Israel. He believed in the Lord regardless of the apparent circumstances. David’s communication was not his own but the Lord’s. The Lord allowed him to approach Goliath without fear and to be confident in knowing the battle was the Lord’s.

When you face battles, are you confident that the Lord has complete authority over your circumstances, no matter what they look or feel like? When you give your life to the Lord, you become His child and your battles belong to Him. Are there consequences to your independent actions? Absolutely. But when your actions align with the Lord’s will, the consequences belong to Him, and your focus should be on Him, not the circumstances confronting you.

Align yourself with God’s will and know without question that your battles belong to Him.

Battles (spiritual, financial, relationships, work, health …) come and go, and the Lord is always with you to fight your battles. Be confident in knowing you are His child. Be steadfast in facing your battles; speak the Lord’s authority over the struggle and take action by searching for the Lord’s will and direction.

It’s up to you to respond and choose the Lord’s protection. When you realize you are under His protection, you will make things happen instead of watching or wondering what’s happening. God permits you to resolve issues, create new solutions, develop new relationships, seek wisdom and love the ones closest to you. Take action today.

Today’s One Thing

Read 1 Samuel 17 and pray for the Lord to spur action in you to make things happen.
