Be Mindful of the Moments
Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
─ Psalm 36:5, 7 ESV
Jesus said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” (John 13:35 NLT). Jesus was telling us to be mindful of the moments. People who have been married 30, 40, 50 or more years will tell you – it’s easy to be in the same room, to be in the same moment and not be present. The same is true with your children, and other relationships.
God is perfect, and we can never attain perfection on our own, but by His grace, we can demonstrate His love to others by imitating Him. The Psalmist described God’s love on many occasions. In today’s verse, he painted a picture of God’s steadfast, unwavering, persistent love flowing from the heavens to earth.
God is always mindful of our moments. He is with us, even when we are unaware. Being present and mindful of the moments, being aware expresses God’s love to those He has put in our lives for a day or for a lifetime.
Life is made up of moments, and if we can learn to live these moments more intentionally, to be mindful of what’s happening in that moment, it demonstrates God’s love.
Today’s One Thing
Choose to be in the moment with others today. Demonstrate God’s love by taking the time to ask others “How are you?” “What’s going on?” Then really listen to what they have to say.
