Because of Mercy
Jesus Christ came that we may be born again. Nicodemus asked, “Can a man go again into his mother’s womb?” (John 3:1-21). The answer is no, of course not! But Jesus spoke of the salvation experience, we come into new life, born of the Spirit.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
─ 1 Peter 1:3 ESV
As children of God, we become a part of God’s family. When we believe in Christ and accept His as Lord and Savior, we should submit our lives to Him and live according to the Father’s guidelines.
In our verse today, “born again” refers to spiritual birth. The Holy Spirit brings those who choose to follow Christ into the family of God. How? Through His great mercy. It’s nothing you can obtain on your own. It’s a gift you must receive.
PQ: His great mercy is a gift you must receive.
And “to a living hope” means eternal life in God. Your hope is not just in the future you may have here on earth, but also the hope of living forever in heaven with God. The Holy Spirit helps you to remain faithful to Christ no matter what circumstances this life brings.
Today’s One Thing
Give thanks to God today for your living hope by sharing with someone else the miraculous things God has done in your life and the assurance that hope provides.
