Better than Before

You probably know the feeling … you worked on something for days … maybe even weeks … and then suddenly it disappears from your computer. It’s a sharp pang of panic in your stomach, leading to a frantic search to recover whatever was lost. Even if you eventually are able to retrieve it, it takes a bit to shake that feeling of lostness.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten … You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.”
─ Joel 2:25-26 ESV

The past few years, for many of us, has been a season of loss. Many have lost jobs, homes, a sense of security, community and family togetherness, and even experienced the death of a loved one. And yet, God promises to restore you.

In our verses today, God said, “I will restore to you all that the locust has eaten, and once again you will have plenty. You will be satisfied because He’s going to take care of things in a wonderful way.”

When your Heavenly Father restores something, it is always better than before.

Throughout God’s Word you find story after story that demonstrate that His restoration is always in abundance. When your Heavenly Father restores something, it is always much better than it was to begin with.

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10 NASB)

God’s promise to us is to take what we once were or once had and in a miraculous way add value and beauty to it.

Today’s One Thing

Is there something in your life today that you’re holding on to? Maybe you took the pieces of something broken in your life and hid it away. Take it out today. Hold it before God and ask Him to bring restoration to it. Give Him a little time and see what He will do in the coming days, weeks or months with the broken pieces you give to Him.
