Christ is Enough – with Danny Gokey

Does it feel to you like more controversy is swirling in the media around and in the church? It seems like it’s increased. It’s heartbreaking. Perhaps you’ve been affected by controversy and been hurt by someone you trusted or looked up to in the church. If not, maybe you know a close family member or friend.

Christian musical artist, Danny Gokey recently shared with Family Life Radio how he’s handling church controversy and things being exposed in the media.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

– 2 Corintians 12:9 ESV

Danny said when he was younger, he would have been a lot more critical towards it. But he shared, “One thing I’ve learned about accusations is that the father of accusations is the devil.” Danny takes note. When an accusation rises, he knows the enemy is at work “because he’s called the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:9-10).

Danny continued, “If it is true, there needs to be some recourse and actions put in place. Some things need to be cut away to have a healthy body of Christ. If it’s not healthy, it’s polluting the body.”

Christ is enough!

“I remember when me and my wife were in the thick of it,” Danny shared. “We were both strong leaders, learning how to live with each other back then. We love each other to pieces. I remember the Lord speaking to me when I didn’t know what to do. I felt like I couldn’t fix it.”

Danny said he heard the Lord say to him, “Christ is enough, and that applies in the Church.”

Christ is enough for the preacher. He’s enough for the full body of Christ. He’s enough for all the mistakes happening in the church and in the world. We don’t condone it because the Bible says it’s just as bad to approve of wrong acts as to do them (Romans 1:32). But we tell the truth in love, and we love the body of Christ.

Jesus is constant, He always stays the same. Danny encourages, “Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. It’s going to happen. It’s not going to stop, and God is going to correct His body, but nevertheless it’s His body.”

Today’s One Thing

Whatever is going on in your life personally, or maybe it’s something painful in the news, remember that Christ is enough. He gave His all so that anyone willing to receive Him could have all they needed for this life and in the next. Pray about whatever concerns you, and thank Him for being enough.
