Consider Life-changing Moments
Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness.
─ Ephesians 5:11 MSG
Consider Life-changing Moments
You’ve probably discovered by now that your choices develop your habits and your habits become your character. Franklin Field said, “The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: I do not have time.”
Time is the only thing in life that respects no one. Time happens equally to everyone. There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 365 days in a year available to every person on the planet. The President of the United States and a homeless person on the street have the same amount of time each day. It’s the one thing in life you really cannot control.
The verse today encourages you not to waste your time on things that are fruitless or produced in darkness. The reality is, lives are changed by moments, not by years. It’s the moments in time when you interact with others:
- how you invest in the lives of your children;
- the words you say to your coworkers;
- the exchanges you have with your neighbors.
One moment in time can change the course of the life of a person. It’s life changing when you understand the power you have in choosing how you will spend the time you have. This reminds me of the statement; helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.
Today’s One Thing
- Ask the Lord to help you consider your moments.
- Look back over the past week at where you spent your time.
- Write down three things you did that weren’t a good use of your time.
- How do you wish you’d spent that time instead?
- This week, put the things you wish you’d done on your to do list.
