Cookies and God

One of the most desirable comfort foods in the west is chocolate chip cookies. Naturally, various recipes claim to have just the right assortment of ingredients that, when mixed together, produces the best-tasting chocolate chip cookies you have ever eaten. So, the next time you pull out your mixing bowl to create the best-tasting cookies, pause and praise the Lord for your bakery artisanship.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

– Colossians 1:16 ESV

When God created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1), He spoke the existence of heaven and earth into being (Gen 1). The Bible does not say He consulted a recipe book or grabbed a dash of this or that to form heaven and earth. The Bible says, “And God said, …”.

The power and authority of God’s words and voice are beyond human comprehension. His influence can be seen when you observe the geographical landscape and weather surrounding you, tasting sweet, salty and sour things, and smelling aromas that send detective signals to your mind.

Now, consider the invisible items you can’t see, taste or smell, but you know they exist, such as oxygen, gravity, magnetic power … and the list goes on. These are the marvelous works of the all-powerful God, things He placed into existence by His spoken word.

You are one of His marvelous works, and the Creator adores you.

God loves you. He loves you so much that He sent His Son to trade places with you and become the atonement for all your sins. He loves you so much that the ingredients used in your favorite recipe that tantalize your tastebuds were crafted into existence by His spoken word for your pleasure. The very senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch were composed for you by Him. Ultimately, all things were created through Him and for Him. You are God’s child.

You have direct access to the supreme and all-powerful God. Take advantage of this privilege and praise Him for creating you and gifting you with fabulous talents and opportunities.
