Courageous Step of Faith
He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.
─ 2 Corinthians 5:5-7 ESV
Actress Alex Borstein shared a moving story about her grandmother’s bravery as a Holocaust survivor, as she accepted her award at the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last September. “My grandmother turned to a guard. She was in line to be shot into a pit. She said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ And he said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you, but somebody will,’ and she stepped out of line. And for that, I am here, and my children are here.”
A life well lived often requires stepping out in faith, not knowing what’s next. For most of us, it makes us nervous to not feel like we’re in control.
2 Corinthians 5:5-7 is full of encouragement to you to step out of line by faith. God has prepared you for this moment, no matter what it brings. He’s given you the Spirit as His personal guarantee. Your hope is not of this world, so you can always be of good courage. No matter what happens, even if it’s death in this life, your eternity is forever with God. In all you do, He provides a calm assurance. You can take that courageous step of faith knowing He’s got you because He created you to walk by faith, not by sight.
