Create a Sanctuary of Peace at Home

When you step through the doorway of your home, you can be confident that it is your safe haven, a sanctuary where the world’s chaos fades into the background as the door shuts behind you.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

– John 14:27 ESV

This assurance is the peace given by Christ, the kind that surpasses all understanding, which He promised in John 14:27. His words contain the blueprint for you to create a sanctuary of peace at home, where His peace reigns supreme, guarding your heart and mind.

To cultivate this atmosphere within your home, start with prayer, inviting God into every room and corner. Just as Jesus welcomed the little children, welcome His presence to fill your space.

  • In your living room, where family and friends gather, let love, forgiveness, and understanding be the foundation, mirroring the love of Christ.
  • In your kitchen – often the heart of the home – can be a place of service and nourishment for the body and soul as you share meals and conversations.
  • In your bedroom, let the peace of Christ be the last thing you reflect on at night and the first in the morning. Let it be a place where worries are handed over to Him, trusting in His promise to carry your burdens.
  • The other rooms in your home can be a testament to integrity, honesty, and diligence.

God provides His peace for your home to be your sanctuary filled with His love and protection.

This doesn’t mean your home will be free from troubles or disagreements. But during storms, you and your loved ones can find steadfast peace, anchored in the truth of God’s Word and His unchanging nature.

It’s about creating a space where the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—are cultivated and flourish. And God’s presence is welcome and expected.

As you endeavor to create your sanctuary, may you find His peace radiating from your home, touching all who enter. God will hear your request as you trust in Him to allow His presence to dwell in every nook and cranny.
