Dancing With Gladness

The “Tear Drop” memorial stands at the end of the former Military Ocean Terminal, opposite the Statue of Liberty, directly across from New York City in Bayonne, New Jersey. The absolutely beautiful, 100-foot-tall monument was given to the people of the United States by the people of Russia in 2006, in honor and remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.

─ Psalm 30:11 ESV

When tragedy struck that day, the whole nation mourned and most of the world joined us. The 10–story, breathtaking sculpture by Zurab Tsereteli displays a breaking in the cracked facade that forms the shape of the two towers. The giant suspended tear drop captures the emotion felt by the entire world that day.

God can turn your mourning into dancing and fill you with joy.

God gave us a promise of hope and healing in our verse today. Whatever challenges we face as a people, one nation under God, He will turn our mourning into dancing and fill us with joy.

We have not forgotten the tragedy of that day, but many of us have allowed God to turn our mourning into dancing.
