Declare Your God-Intentions

For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

─ Romans 10:10 ESV

Many of us have thoughts, ideas and things we believe in our hearts, but something powerful happens when we declare our intentions. In fact, there is something very attractive about people who know what they believe, why they believe it and then declare it.

Back in 1932, in the World Series between New York and Chicago, Babe Ruth played for the Yankees. His story has become well known. He stepped up to bat in the fifth inning during a tied game. He took the first two pitches, both strikes. They are playing in Chicago, and he’s getting hassled by those in the dugout. He points toward the flag in centerfield and then takes that swing. He puts that ball right into centerfield for a homerun. They even used the words, “he declared his intention,” and years later, we are attracted to people who will point to centerfield and say, “That’s where I’m going.”

Paul said, “Yes, we believe in Jesus deep in our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we openly say that we believe in Him, and so we are saved” (ERV). That’s a part of the process, not that your words are going to impress God, but your words are evidence of what’s going on inside your heart. As believers in Jesus Christ, we should declare our intentions about how we live our lives.

Today’s One Thing

Take five minutes today and think about God-intentions for your life. Write down three declarations for your faith, relationships, health, work or finances. Keep them in front of your eyes and coming out of your mouth this week and see what God will do.
