Decluttering Your Life for Better Health

I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.

─ 3 John 1:2 ESV

Decluttering Your Life for Better Health

Remember the good old days when it seemed like airplanes were full and people were flying for every reason under the sun? For business? To see family and friends? And remember vacations? A suitcase has a 40- or 50-pound limit, and what do we do? We all put half a pound of the max weight into it and hope we can get it through the checked baggage area. Many of us take way too much with us on a trip, and also can have a tendency to pack way too much into our lives, negatively affecting our health.

Third John 3:2 says, “I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you even as your soul is getting along well.” Good health is a blessing from God.

How do you define good health? The World Health Organization says, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and just not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Good health is a state of being, or how God intended for us to be. So, the question to ask yourself is, “What’s got to go?”

In the case of your health, what do you need to remove from your life that negatively affects your health?

Some questions to ponder:

  • What negativity is coming into your life?
  • Is there entertainment that’s dragging you down emotionally and spiritually?
  • Do you have some friendships that, instead of building you up, are discouraging you?
  • Do you have some bad habits of spending, use of credit cards or work priorities that instead of adding to your life, subtract from it?

Consider removing something each day that negatively impacts your health. When you do that, by the end of the day you’re going to feel encouraged that you grabbed hold of one thing, and at the end of a week, you’re going to feel stronger. At the end of a month, you’re going to start to see your life change. At the end of the year, you will have experienced a transformation.
