Don’t Let Doubt Take You Out

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.” ─ James 1:5-6

“I just don’t know now,” Megan was on the phone with her sister, Melanie. “I was really certain it was the Lord’s plan for me to take this job. I was sure he opened the door for me, but I’ve had so many challenges, I’m starting to wonder ….” Her voice trailed off.

“You were so sure … so confident,” Melanie reminder her. God doesn’t change His mind. But He didn’t say it was easy. If there were no obstacles, you wouldn’t need to use your faith – and you wouldn’t have to rely on Him,” she encouraged. “Don’t let your doubt take you out.”

Do you struggle with doubt after you step out in faith? It’s easy to overthink or second guess your decision. When we start to doubt, the winds of doubt begin to blow through our emotions, like a tornado, causing confusion, chaos. Those thoughts are on a mission to break the truth of what God has revealed to us.

In the Bible, James provides us with instruction whenever we feel the winds of doubt begin to blow. He says to count it all joy when you find your faith being tested. It produces steadfastness (James 1:3). When you find yourself about to doubt, ask God for wisdom. He’s promised to give it to you – but you must ask in faith and stand firm trusting God to lead you.

Today’s One Thing

Today, when those winds of doubt begin to blow through your mind, take authority and silence those thoughts with God’s words: God makes his wisdom known to me, I will not doubt but expect my God to bring me through by faith.
