You Don’t Have to Walk Far to Find Freedom

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

— Romans 8:1-2

We all know God hates sin. He despises anything that separates us from Him. He hates it so much—and loves us so much—that He sent His Son to die in our place, to free us from the consequences and condemnation of death. When we surrender our lives to Christ, that freedom is available to each of us.

This is a choice, a decision we all have to make. We will either walk with the Lord in the freedom He gives or allow sin to overwhelm us. In Romans 8 Paul instructed us to live in the Spirit. To do that we must set our minds on the things of the Spirit and not on the things of this world.

This sounds easy, but it is far from it. Our busy lives are filled with responsibilities. Family and work and church and all of the other urgent needs demand our time. Distractions abound, pulling our focus away from God.

God, however, does not abandon us. His Spirit remains ever constant, aiding us in our faith, helping us to keep our focus on Him. When we walk with the Lord, He will be there, guiding and loving us. When we begin to wander, He calls us back to His path. And when we live in the Spirit, we’re freed from the law of sin and death.
