Enough Rest

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

—2 Corinthians 12:9

Jennifer looked at the clock and hoped she could get fifteen minutes of sleep tonight before the alarm went off.

Every time she had fallen asleep one of her kids woke her. She’d settled her baby but then had trouble falling back to sleep. Every hour one of the four woke from thirst, dirty diaper, tummy ache or a nightmare. And she knew the next day would be no less busy.

With a sigh she prayed, “Lord, I know you said that your grace is sufficient, and right now I need your rest to be sufficient.” She nodded off.

When the alarm sounded Jennifer sat up, feeling more refreshed than she had in weeks. Amazingly she stayed fully awake all day and had the energy she needed to complete every task at hand. She thanked God that evening and started trusting God to give her the rest she needed. She stopped worrying about counting how many hours of sleep she got and started focusing on how much refreshment God could give her in just a few minutes.

Many people suffer from insomnia or wake during the night from noises, dreams or a snoring spouse. When we face this trial, we can stress out about it. Or we can relax, talk to God and close our eyes. Even if we’re awake, our bodies can rest as we recognize our weaknesses and rely on the power of Christ.

God truly knows your needs, and His timing never depends on a clock. Let Him refresh your mind, body and spirit.

One Thing Today
