Face Toward Eternity

Let Almighty God be your gold, and let him be silver, piled high for you. Then you will always trust in God and find that he is the source of your joy. When you pray, he will answer you, and you will keep the vows you made. You will succeed in all you do, and light will shine on your path.

─ Job 22:25-28 GNT

Charles Swindoll said, “Your call will become clear as your mind is transformed by the reading of Scripture and the internal work of God’s Spirit. The Lord never hides His will from us. In time, as you obey the call first to follow, your destiny will unfold before you. The difficulty will lie in keeping other concerns from diverting your attention.”

This life is continually moving forward toward eternity. Job, through his sufferings, had every reason to become distracted and give up. Yet, he kept his eyes on the Lord. He would not give up, even when friends and family members said he should.

The Lord is our focus, our joy and our future (Job 22:25-26). David, the psalmist, expresses the joys and benefits – now and eternally – of living life in unison with God. He says, “You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands” (Psalm 16:5 GNT).

With all you do, remember your actions not only affect you – positively or negatively. You could be influencing an eternity. Look to God, it’s all for Him.

Today’s One Thing

Here are three ways to live eternally focused:

  1. Know the One you serve – spend time in prayer and His Word each day (Colossians 4:2).
  2. Understand why you are here (Ephesians 5:10).
  3. When making decisions, always choose His ways. (Psalm 119:30)
