Fight Truth Decay

When you visit the dentist, they examine your mouth for tooth decay. Keeping your mouth healthy, clean and devoid of bacteria that can cause damage to your teeth increases the possibility you won’t spend too much time in the dentist’s chair.

Work hard so God can say to you, “Well done.” Be a good workman, one who does not need to be ashamed when God examines your work. Know what his Word says and means.”
─ 2 Timothy 2:15 TLB

The same principle applies to your heart when it comes to truth decay. Without the life-giving truth of God’s Word, your heart can become damaged by all the chaos, disease and affliction that infects the world you live in today.

Faithfully apply the truth each day to avoid truth decay.

David gives insight to this when he declared in Psalm 119:11, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (ESV). Faithfully apply the truth each day to avoid truth decay by spending time with God in His Word.

Remember, His truth sets you free from the snares of sin. You are called to “know what His Word says and means.” Only when you know and experience His truth, can you live each day to please the Father.

Today’s One Thing
Examine your heart today in your quiet time.

  1. Choose a verse or portion of Scripture (perhaps start in 1 John 1:1).
  2. Read it several times. Underline, highlight or write out phrases or words that speak to you.
  3. Invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you about what you can learn as it applies to what’s going on in your life right now.
  4. Get quiet. Turn off the noise, step away from your computer, put down your phone and find a comfortable place to sit in God’s presence.
