Finding Light in Your Pain with Katy Nichole
Katy Nichole, Christian musician, songwriter and worship leader says she tends to write some of her best songs in a season when life is heavy. She says it’s in those moments when the world feels so dark, there’s still light. “As Christians, we are to be the light. And when we’re the light, that’s where we’re going to find Jesus the most because we are reflecting God.”
[Jesus] said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have a life filled with light and will never live in the dark.”– John 8:12 GW
In life, we all face moments of heaviness and pain. It can be easy to let those difficult times consume you, but as a Christ follower, you know you can find hope and strength in Jesus Christ. Through your struggles, you have the opportunity to become a reflection of God’s light and love in the world.
Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (NIV). As a believer, God asks you to be a light to those around you. It’s your opportunity to show the world the hope and love that only comes through Jesus.
When you choose to focus on God’s love and light, you become a beacon of hope to those around you.
Even in the darkest of times, we can find joy and hope. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4 NIV). This is not to say you should be happy about your struggles, but instead encourage you to find joy in knowing that God is working in and through your difficult times. You can trust God is using your trials to shape and mold you into the person He knows you can become.
One of the most beautiful things about our faith is the way it shines through our struggles. When you choose to focus on God’s love and light, you become a beacon of hope to those around you. As you let your light shine, you draw closer to Jesus. In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
When you choose to follow Jesus and allow His light to shine through you, you’ll see that you are never truly alone in your struggles. He is with you every step of the way.
