Forever Faithful in the Silence

Would you be surprised to know that most of us experience feeling distant from God sometimes in our Christian walk? Christian music artist, Mac Powell shared, “I pray daily; I read the Word daily. I go, ‘Lord, I’m away from you right now. I’m not in your presence the way I felt it before.’ But at the same time, it doesn’t worry me because I know I’ve gone through those seasons as everyone does.”

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

– Psalm 34:8 NLT

Despite our efforts to stay close through prayer and reading the Word, we can feel distant from Him. It’s a season that can be unsettling, but take heart, even those who have walked with God for years can go through times of spiritual dryness.

When God feels far away, lean into His promises, continue to seek Him, and trust He is at work, even in the silence.

God’s presence is not based on your feelings. The psalmist reminds us today that we have tasted God’s goodness before, and this becomes the anchor for your faith during dry seasons. Your hope is grounded in the faithfulness of God. You might not feel His presence as strongly right now, but it’s a season that will pass. God promises to never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Instead of fearing these times, see them as opportunities to grow deeper in your faith. Use this season to reflect on God’s past faithfulness and trust in His promises. Lean into God’s promises and continue to seek Him, even when it feels like He is far away. Trust that He is working in your life, even in the silence.

Today’s One Thing

Encourage yourself today by declaring: God is always with me, even when I don’t feel His presence. I trust in His faithfulness and believe that this season of dryness will lead to a deeper connection with Him. I will continue to seek Him and rely on His promises.
