Freedom in Forgiveness

I am the Lord your God, Who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that you should no more be slaves; and I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect [as free men].

─ Leviticus 26:13 AMPC

Freedom in Forgiveness

Only those who have ever been held captive or imprisoned truly know what it means to be freed from physical bondage. We can only imagine the emotion that rushes through someone when their freedom is finally realized.

In Leviticus, God sets the path of obedience and disobedience before his children. For generations, the Israelites remained captive, slaves to Egypt. Then God miraculously brought them out of slavery and into freedom.

If you’ve received Christ, you know what it means to have your sins forgiven and your spiritual debt cancelled because of Jesus’ willingness to pay all you owed. You are no longer tied to your past. You are free from the weight of guilt and condemnation.

The Israelites had to see themselves as free men before they could let go of their slave mentality. You may have to experience the consequences of your past choices, but you are no longer held captive by shame. God has forgiven you and sent the Holy Spirit to help you overcome the temptation to return to sinful behavior. You can trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and lead you in all truth.

Today’s One Thing

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is forgive yourself. Is there anything in your past you feel bad about and allow the enemy of your soul to condemn you for? Choose today to let it go; forgive yourself and embrace the new God has for you.
