Friendship in Hard Times
And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up. That’s why whenever we can we should always be kind to everyone, and especially to our Christian brothers.
─ Galatians 6:9-10 TLB
Friendship in Hard Times
Grief can take your breath away. It brings you down to the ground and even can cripple you without the support you need. The hard times of loss, on any level, require assistance from God and humankind.
The verse today offers encouragement to keep doing what you know is right and not give up. And the second part of the verse is instruction to be kind to everyone, especially those who share our faith. You never know what someone is dealing with in their lives. Every one of us struggles in the different seasons of life.
A man named Job lost his home, his income, his health and every one of his children died. When his friends heard the news, they left their homes to mourn with him (Job 2:11). These men sat down with him on the ground and stayed there with him. His deep grief left them speechless, and all they could do was just be with him.
Today’s One Thing
Who has sat with you during a difficult time? If you haven’t, tell them what it meant to give you the gift of their presence. Ask God who needs your friendship as they endure a hard season in life?
