Give God Permission

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

─ Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Give God Permission

Our thoughts can lead us away from God. Disappointment is painful and it’s tempting to hide yourself away from others, even those who love you most, especially God. God is the One who knows you best. Whatever you feel like you’re keeping from Him, He already knows. It’s really pointless to try to hide what you’ve done or how you’re feeling.

In the verse above, the Psalmist invited God to search him for sin and point out even thoughts that displeased Him. When God points sin out to us, it’s not to make us feel guilty or unworthy, but to bring us to repentance so that we can stand before God clean and stainless.

  • God understands how you feel.
  • He will not hold your emotions against you.
  • Talk to Him about it.
  • Ask Him your questions.
  • Share your doubts and any confusion with Him.

God knows when you’re struggling and has the answers you need. Be open and allow Him to encourage you, comfort you, guide you and remind you of His sovereignty.

Today’s One Thing

Give God permission to search your heart and speak to you about thoughts that displease Him.
