Give God Your First
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.”
─ Lamentations 3:21-22
On the days we spend time with the Lord before we begin our morning routine, compared to the days we don’t, can seem to have different outcomes for us. It’s not necessarily that the circumstances of the day are different, but the attitude of our hearts and the outlook on our situation changes because of time spent with Him.
The Bible says His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). That’s why the things He asks us to do – like spend time with Him in prayer and in His Word –is something we have to work at given the busy life so many of us lead.
Time in His presence is important. It can give us an opportunity to be quiet, to renew our minds to His ways and to hear His gentle nudges of direction that help us on our daily path. In the long run, it might save us time during the day if we take heed to His guidance. The peace we experience as a result of spending time with Him in the morning can position us to respond to something unexpected with confidence, instead of with frustration. Perhaps our Bible study time brings words to settle our hearts, and possibly for someone else who also needs to hear the same encouraging words.
Today’s One Thing
Do a little experiment this week. Give the very first portion of your morning to God each day. Pay attention to the difference it makes in your week.
