God Goes Before You
It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will march with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; let there be no cowardice or flinching, but fear not, neither become broken in spirit—depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm.
─ Deuteronomy 31:8 AMPC
Have you ever watched a movie you’d already seen with someone who hadn’t seen it? You know exactly what’s going to happen and can anticipate their reaction. No doubt you’re tempted to cover your eyes, if it’s something difficult to watch, or tell them just a little of what’s about to happen to save them the stress and anxiety of the unknown.
God knows every detail of your life and exactly how it will unfold. While He’s pre-screened the movie for you, so to speak, He also goes before you. Deuteronomy 31:8 is a promise: He marches with you, unwilling to let you fail. He is with you – running out ahead of you.
Psalm 139:5 in The Passion Translation is very similar. It says: “You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me. You hem me in before and behind. God protects you from what may come in the future and what has happened in the past.”
How comforting to know we can trust God with our future because He’s already been there. He already knows what happens.
Today’s One Thing
Remind yourself of God’s promise to go before you today by personalizing this scripture and reading it aloud. The Lord marches with me; He will not fail me or let me go. He cannot forsake me. There is no reason to be afraid. The Lord goes before me.
