God Invites You to Rest
Rest is woven deeply into the rhythm of creation and central to God’s desire for us. From the very beginning, God set an example of rest. Genesis 2:2-3 tells us that after six days of creation, God rested, blessing and sanctifying that seventh day as holy.
And [Jesus] said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
– Mark 6:31 NKJV
Was God fatigued? Not at all; He took this day to demonstrate the sacredness of rest and to remind us we are invited into that same place—His peace.
With the weight of life’s demands, it’s easy to put rest on the backburner, but the Bible continually emphasizes its importance. Exodus 31:15 and Leviticus 25:5 speak of the Sabbath, a time set aside for worship and rest, reminding us that rest is a command. When we honor this rest, it renews our strength and reorients our hearts toward God.
God graciously offers you the gift of rest, inviting you to dwell in His peace.
In Mark 6:31, Jesus invited His disciples to come away and rest, showing that rest is part of our spiritual rhythm and necessary for our souls.
God desires rest for us—not just physical rest, but peace in our minds and spirits. In Psalm 62:1, David writes, “Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.” When we rest in God’s presence, we release our burdens and allow His peace to fill our hearts.
Today’s One Thing
Set aside time this week to intentionally rest in God’s presence. Choose a quiet moment to release your worries to Him, meditate on a psalm, or spend time in prayer, allowing yourself to simply “be” with God.
