God’s Choice
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
─ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Can you believe they promoted her to a director’s position?” Melanie scoffed to Elaine, nodding toward a coworker as she walked through the small coffee shop in their office building.
Elaine, who was only recently hired, sipped her hot drink slowly, a little unsure of what to say. Finally, she swallowed and looked at Melanie. “And why wouldn’t they?” she asked.
“Well, for one, she doesn’t have a degree. No one here has ever been promoted, even to manager, without a college education,” Melanie replied.
A little bolder, Elaine shifted in her seat. “Well, I’ve had the privilege of working with her. She’s amazing with the patients and their families. She seems to know what to say when you need words in those difficult situations. I see why they promoted her, degree or not.”
Melanie frowned. “I guess I’m a little jealous,” she admitted.
“I love to watch God choose and use those that the world ignores and considers unqualified.” Elaine smiled. “If you take a minute to get to know her, you’ll find that she gives all the glory to God. When we’re willing to do things God’s way, He’ll take us farther than we ever dreamed.”
