God’s Heroes

When a hero rises, they are seldom thinking in that moment about becoming a hero. Instead, they consider the right things to do in their heart and follow that leading. In the age we live in, people can do the right thing at the right time and still be criticized or condemned.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
─ Proverbs 31:8-9 NIV

Boaz, a wealthy man in his community, was known as a man of his word and sensitive to those in need and became a hero – certainly to Ruth and Naomi, whom he redeemed by marrying Ruth after her husband died.

God often uses what seems like a small decision at the time to carry out His big plans.

God blessed Boaz for his obedience to honor the name of Ruth’s dead husband when other family members refused. He became the father of Obed, and his name is recorded in the lineage of Jesus, the Messiah.

Your decision to become a hero for God’s purposes can be a tiny decision made in a split second to do what is right. At the time, it may seem like a small sacrifice or an easy thing, but in the lives of those who are in need, it makes a huge difference.

Today’s One Thing

This week, watch for opportunities to obey God by speaking up for others and defending the rights of those in need. Ask God to show you how you can be a light for Him.
