Going the Opposite Direction
Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
─ Jeremiah 6:16 ESV
Haley smiled as she listened to her coworkers complain about their terrible commutes into the metroplex. She truly had nothing to complain about. She actually thanked the Lord every time she looked across the interstate at the traffic going the opposite direction. He had placed her perfectly in a home that she didn’t have to fight her way back to after work each day.
The world’s fast paced life usually flows in direct opposition of God’s path for His children. People are more interested in fitting in or going with the flow. It definitely seems easier for most. It’s human nature to reject God’s path and go our own way instead.
In Jeremiah’s day even God’s people became angry and closed their ears. Following God’s commands appeared boring. They frowned upon God’s call to a disciplined life. Our verse today holds a promise, if you look for it and follow the ancient paths, you will find rest for your souls.
We must decide today: will we go God’s way or follow a path of our own? Are we willing to go in the direction opposite of the world? God’s path brings peace.
Today’s One Thing
Examine your path today. Are you planning your own way and asking God to bless it or truly yielded to follow the road He’s chosen? Read Jeremiah 6 today. Let the scripture speak to your heart and open your eyes to see God’s direction and peace for your decisions and choices before you today.
